Anyway, I went down to the local independent bookstore to pick up a pre-signed copy of John Green and David Levithan's new book Will Grayson, Will Grayson. When I got there, I stumbled upon Cindy Sheehan who is currently in the process of a book tour in the area.
I hung at the book store for about half an hour or so, listening to her speak and waiting for the woman at the check-out to get the book that was set aside for me. And I listened to Cindy more and more, I began to disagree with her current platform. She is pushing for the development of a strong third party through community involvement that would lead to a national grassroots movement, but with more of an anarcho-communism/Marxist view. She was talking a lot about the Robber class and the Robbed class, and I couldn't help but think of Marx's talk of the proletariat versus the bourgeoisie.
Honestly, I have respect for her protesting of the wars, but I can't help but disagree with her. What she is trying to do is ... I hate to say it ... impossible. Because of the constant fighting between the Republicans and the Democrats and the wide-spread acceptance of both parties, it would be incredibly hard for a third party to establish itself like the Democratic or Republican Party.
